How much does large format 3D printing cost? How your quote is calculated

โœ“ The short answer:

The cost of large format 3D printing depends on your part: dimensions and volume of material, infill, material (PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS or Nylon PA12), machine time, cutting and assembly, finish and quantity. PAMI3D does not publish a rate card: every project is quoted individually. Made in France (Bonson, Loire). Free quote within 24 to 48 hours.

Who is this 3D printing cost guide for?

โš™๏ธ Industrial buyers & engineering offices

The problem: you need to compare 3D printing with machining or moulding, without knowing what really drives the cost of a printed part.
Our answer: a quote broken down item by item (material, machine time, finish, quantity) from your STEP or STL file, with ways to optimise โ€” see large format prototyping.

๐Ÿ“ฃ Marketing, trade marketing & POS

The problem: a campaign budget fixed in advance and a giant object that has to fit within it, without sacrificing in-store impact.
Our answer: we adjust size, finish and number of copies to fit your budget โ€” examples of 3D printed POS displays.

๐Ÿ“ Architects & property developers

The problem: a model to present to a jury or to buyers, with a fee budget that leaves no room for surprises.
Our answer: a quote based on your BIM or CAD file, with scale and level of detail suited to the use โ€” see our architectural models.

๐ŸŽญ Events & scenography

The problem: a one-off, monumental piece, an event date that will not move, and a budget to approve fast.
Our answer: a clear, itemised quote โ€” free quote within 24 to 48 hours โ€” with the production schedule set according to size and complexity โ€” see 3D events.

The factors that determine the cost of large format 3D printing

The cost of 3D printing cannot be read off a chart: it is calculated part by part. Four items form the basis of every large format 3D printing quote:

  • Dimensions and volume of material: a person-sized part uses more filament than a tabletop object, and what counts is the actual volume, not the overall footprint;
  • Infill and wall thickness: a decorative part can be hollow, while a functional part needs more material inside;
  • Material: PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS or Nylon PA12, chosen according to the use (indoor, outdoor, flexibility, loads);
  • Machine time: it depends on the volume, the height and the layer resolution required.
The issue: a per-gram or per-hour rate shown online says nothing about the final cost of a large format part: cutting, assembly and finishing are not included.
The PAMI3D solution: a complete quote, item by item, from file preparation to delivery. Our process is detailed on the large format FDM technology page.

Beyond printing: modelling, assembly, finishing, delivery

Part of the cost of 3D printing is decided before and after the machine:

  • Modelling: if your file is printable, there is nothing to design; without a file, we model from a photo or a sketch, or start from a 3D scan โ€” see the 3D files we accept;
  • Cutting and assembly: up to 110ร—110ร—170 cm the part comes out in a single piece; beyond that, it is split, interlocked and assembled;
  • Finishing level: raw print, sanded, primed, painted in your brand colours, varnished โ€” details on the 3D print finishing page;
  • Quantity: one-off or series, the preparation is shared across several copies;
  • Packaging and delivery: an XXL part needs a custom crate or protective packaging.
The issue: finishing is often the most underestimated item: a painted and varnished part needs a great deal of sanding and priming work that the machine does not do.
The PAMI3D solution: we quote only the finishing the use requires โ€” a validation model does not need the look of a luxury shop window.

Getting a quick quote: what to send us

The more complete the request, the more accurate the 3D printing quote. Send to devis@pami3d.com:

  • A 3D file (STEP, STL, OBJ) or, failing that, a photo, a sketch or a dimensioned drawing;
  • The desired dimensions: height, width and depth of the finished part;
  • The use: indoor or outdoor, displayed or handled, decor or functional part;
  • The quantity: one copy, a few or a series;
  • The expected finish: raw, sanded, painted, your brand colours.
Our commitment: free quote within 24 to 48 hours, no obligation, with the recommended material and a production lead time set according to size and complexity.
Spools of PLA, PETG, TPU, ABS and Nylon PA12 filament: the right material optimises the cost of large format 3D printing, PAMI3D
Choosing the material that is just right for the use: a direct lever on the budget.

How to optimise the budget for your large format 3D print

Four levers reduce the cost of a 3D printed part without compromising the result:

  • Hollowing: a hollow decorative part with controlled walls uses less material and machine time;
  • Smart assembly: cutting a large part into interlocking elements can reduce print supports and make finishing easier;
  • The right finish: full painting for a shop window, a light finish for a validation prototype;
  • Series: grouping several copies shares the file preparation and machine settings.
The issue: over-specifying the material or finish โ€œjust to be safeโ€ makes the part more expensive with no benefit for the use.
The PAMI3D solution: we suggest the material and finish that are just right, and point out in the quote the options that lighten the budget. Real cases in industry and in large format 3D printing.

Why PAMI3D does not publish a rate card

Every large format part is unique: two objects of the same height can require completely different volumes of material, machine time and finishing. A public rate card would either mislead you or be inflated to cover every case.

Our choice: a bespoke quote, clear item by item, free and with no obligation. You pay for your part, not for an average. For an overview of everything we offer, see our 3D printing services.

3D printing costs and quotes: your questions

How much does large format 3D printing cost?

There is no single figure: the cost depends on the dimensions and volume of material, the infill, the material, machine time, any cutting, the finish and the quantity. Send your project to devis@pami3d.com: free quote within 24 to 48 hours.

Is the quote free and binding?

The quote is free and with no obligation. It details the material, finish, any cutting and the production lead time; the order only starts once you approve it.

How does the cost of a one-off part compare with a series?

In a series, file preparation, machine settings and part of the finishing are shared: the cost per copy generally falls as the quantity rises. State the number of parts in your request for an accurate quote.

Is 3D printing more cost-effective than traditional manufacturing?

For a one-off part or a short run in large format, 3D printing avoids moulds and tooling, which often makes it the right choice. For a large series, a process such as thermoforming may become more suitable; we will advise you honestly.

Can I get an estimate without a 3D file?

Yes. A photo, a sketch or a dimensioned drawing, with the dimensions and the use, is enough to quote; modelling is then included in the quote.

How can I reduce the cost of my 3D print?

Hollow out decorative parts, choose the material and finish that are just right for the use, split very large parts intelligently and group copies into a series. We point out these options in the quote.

Why request your 3D printing quote from PAMI3D?
