Which files for large format 3D printing?
In order to design usable large format 3D printing files, there are different solutions:
- Computer Aided Design (CAD)
- Buy existing files from online libraries dedicated to 3D printing (thingiverse, cults3d, myminifactory...)
- Scan in 3D (see 3D scanner section)
PAMI3D can help you to model your 3D printing files or modify an existing file... retouch a file according to your needs (example of reprocessing of the shadows in a scan)
What file extensions are needed for 3D printing?
The 3D file is designed from information (text or binary data) in order to encode shapes, geometry, texture... in a 3D scene.
The most commonly used 3D file formats today have the following extensions: STL, OBJ, FBX, COLLADA, 3DS, IGES; STEP and VRML / X3D.... There are many other extensions or formats, however we recommend 2 extensions or formats for easy support of your files: .stl and .obj
